Domestic violence is not just a woman’s issue. It affects everyone. Violence against another member of your community is violence against the whole community. The time to pull together is now! You can get involved today.
As community advocates against domestic violence, the YWCA is proud to announce the launching of its associate program for men: Mavericks (Men Against Violence).
By definition, a maverick is an independently-minded person who refuses to accept the standards of a particular group. When thinking of how this applies to the rejection of popular societal norms of male domination and attitudes toward women, it’s exciting to be labeled a maverick!
Becoming a Maverick allows a man to identify himself as an advocate against domestic violence and as a proponent of a healthy, safe community. By partnering efforts with the YWCA Wichita, a 100-year-old organization which focuses its efforts on the prevention of domestic violence and the elimination of racism, men can make a difference!
The YWCA Wichita welcomes the men and boys of the Wichita community as part of the growing number of citizens who believe that every home in our community should be a safe home, and no one should have to leave home to feel safe.
“The YWCA has taken a leadership role in confronting domestic violence in our community. The collaborative development of the Law Enforcement Advocacy Program (LEAP) is very powerful because it brings together two groups—law enforcement and advocates—to do what needs to be done.”
